Digital Jurist

Digital Jurist

Brief History

The pcl. Web Jurist award was instituted in 2007 to aid e-business across various sectors of the Nigerian economy. With websites being the major digital touchpoint in the early days of e-commerce, pcl.’s Digital Jurist rated company websites in line with global best practices to provide a benchmark for organisation website development and e-business goals. In addition, pcl. assisted companies in transforming their e-business landscape through e-business strategy development, web platform assessment/benchmarking, end-to-end security assessment, and information security management. However, e-commerce has undergone a massive transformation. In recent years, organisations have incorporated newer digital touchpoints such as social media platforms, mobile apps, and ATMs/kiosks in the delivery of their e-business solutions. Also, websites are now developed with a focus on creating a superb user experience and more engaging content. Consequently, pcl. has rebranded the Web Jurist awards to the Digital Jurist awards. The Digital Jurist award rates organisations based on their level of adoption and use of these modern touchpoints, and provide a benchmark to assist companies to meet the demands of today’s e-commerce space.

Ratings

The Web Jurist® ratings were conceived by e-business experts at Phillips Consulting. The ratings commenced in May 2001 with version 1.0. Its primary objective was to critically and objectively evaluate the effectiveness of websites in Nigeria, initially focusing on the financial services industry. Phillips Consulting sought to establish a barometer for assessing e-commerce activities and for identifying best practices.

Digital Jurist 1.0 served as a wake-up call for banks. For the first time, websites got executive attention which resulted in a deluge of internet activity by the banks. As a result of our yearly assessments, several websites have been revamped. Some even abandoned their existing sites and developed brand new websites. We have now rebranded this service as Digital Jurist, to include an evaluation of more modern digital touchpoints.
